Ping IPv6

Measure reachability and latency over IPv6.

Live lookup

An IPv6 ping sends ICMPv6 echo requests to an IPv6 address and measures the replies. It answers one specific question: is this host reachable over IPv6? A host can work perfectly over IPv4 and still fail here.

How Ping IPv6 works

What it does

Measure reachability and latency over IPv6.

What you get

IPv6 response times and packet loss from a remote probe.

Live data sources

The target is sent to a network provider. Results include their source; timeouts and unavailable data are clearly marked.

What if a check cannot finish?

Confirm your input and try again. A timeout, blocked request, or unavailable provider is not proof that a domain is broken. Internet measurements and third-party services have limits.

Ping IPv6 — frequently asked questions

My domain pings over IPv4 but not IPv6. Why?

Most likely there is no AAAA record, or the server is not listening on its IPv6 address. Publishing AAAA without configuring the service is a common half-finished migration.

Do I actually need IPv6?

You can operate without it, but a growing share of mobile networks are IPv6-only and reach you through a translation layer. Native IPv6 removes that extra hop.

Why is IPv6 sometimes slower than IPv4?

Usually routing, not the protocol. Newer IPv6 paths can be less direct than mature IPv4 ones. A traceroute shows where the extra time is being spent.
